How to Play Heidemarie in Chaos Zero Nightmare
Heidemarie's gameplay revolves around the Linked and Quietus mechanics to create explosive combo chains where manually playing a single Linked card discards all other Linked cards simultaneously, activating Quietus cards for free and triggering discard effects on Effulgent Blades to perform massive burst damage turns. Understanding how Linked interacts with Quietus, how to generate and link Effulgent Blades efficiently, and how to build toward Effulgent Release are essential to playing her effectively.
The core mechanic Linked works as follows: Any cards in hand with the Linked keyword are connected by a blue line visual indicator. When you manually play a Linked card (by clicking it and paying its AP cost), all other Linked cards in hand are immediately sent to the discard pile. This is the critical distinction - Linked only triggers when you manually play a Linked card. If you discard a Linked card through a card effect, the other Linked cards remain in hand and are NOT discarded. This allows control over when to trigger the chain.
When a Quietus card is discarded due to the Linked chain reaction, it activates for free as if you played it normally. For example: You have Hero to All I (Linked, Quietus) and Sword Rain I (Linked, Quietus) in hand. You manually play Sword Rain I (paying 1 AP). Linked triggers, discarding Hero to All I. Hero to All I has Quietus, so it activates for free, drawing 3 cards and linking them.
However If a Linked card does NOT have Quietus or a "when discarded" effect, it is simply discarded without activating when the Linked chain triggers. This means you should start your Linked combos with cards that do NOT have Quietus, so they don't waste activation potential. Use non-Quietus Linked cards (base Sword Rain, base Thread of Light, Effulgent Blade) as combo starters, allowing Quietus Linked cards (Hero to All I, Sword Rain I, Effulgent Expansion I) to activate for free via discard.
Effulgent Blade is Heidemarie's core damage card and resource. It's a 1 AP Attack (Linked) that deals Damage when played manually, and when discarded by any effect, performs Extra Attack to a random enemy. Most importantly, Effulgent Blades never shuffle back into your Draw Pile - they permanently remain in your Discard Pile once they leave your hand (whether played or discarded). This means you can accumulate dozens of Effulgent Blades in your Discard Pile over the course of a fight.
The Linked interaction with Effulgent Blade creates chain reactions: If you have 5 Effulgent Blades in hand (all Linked), manually playing one blade (1 AP) triggers Linked, discarding the other 4 blades. Each discarded blade triggers its "when discarded" effect. This is why generating and accumulating Effulgent Blades is the primary game plan.
Hero to All is Heidemarie's Linked application tool. Base Hero to All costs 1 AP (Skill, Quietus), draws 3 cards, and applies Linked to those 3 cards for this turn. The drawn cards gain Linked temporarily. The most common usage: You have Effulgent Expansion I (Linked, Quietus) in hand. Play Hero to All (1 AP), drawing 3 cards and linking them. If those drawn cards have Quietus or discard effects, you now have 4 Linked cards (3 drawn + Effulgent Expansion). Manually play a non-Quietus card from the 3 drawn (or play Effulgent Expansion to start the chain), triggering Linked and discarding all Linked cards. All Quietus cards activate for free.
Effulgent Expansion generates Effulgent Blades. Base Effulgent Expansion costs 2 AP (Skill, Quietus), creates 2 Effulgent Blades, and grants +50% Damage Amount to Effulgent Blades for 1 turn. This is your primary Effulgent Blade generator alongside Sword Rain (which generates 1 Blade per draw via Attunement).
- Effulgent Expansion I (2 AP, Linked, Quietus): Creates 2 Blades, +70% Damage Amount to Blades, has Linked tag. This becomes part of Linked combos, so discarding it via Linked generates 2 Blades mid-combo while buffing existing Blades. Best for consistent Blade generation in discard-heavy teams.
- Effulgent Expansion IV (2 AP, Linked, Quietus): Creates 10 Effulgent Blades directly in Discard Pile. This skips the hand entirely, immediately stacking your graveyard for Effulgent Release. Combined with Sword Rain III (activates 5 Blades from graveyard), this creates massive burst damage.
Effulgent Compression and Effulgent Release are Heidemarie's ultimate payoff. Effulgent Compression is a 0 AP Skill (Unique, Linked, Retrieve 3) that cannot be manually played. Its effect: "When moved to Graveyard, 1 Effulgent Light." The three crystals below Heidemarie's HP bar track Effulgent Light stacks. Every time Effulgent Compression is discarded, it immediately returns to your hand via Retrieve 3 and gains 1 Effulgent Light stack. After accumulating 3 Effulgent Light stacks, Effulgent Compression transforms into Effulgent Release.
Effulgent Release is a 0 AP Attack that deals 500% base Damage, exhausts every Effulgent Blade in your Discard Pile, and gains % Damage Amount per Blade exhausted. There is NO CAP on how many Blades you can exhaust.
