Veronica functions best as a universal support character who provides card draw for teammates through Repose while contributing consistent end-of-turn damage via Ballistas. Hunting Time deals AoE damage and instantly maxes your Reload stacks, ensuring your Ballistas hit at maximum power this turn. With E3, it also creates a random Ballista card. Use this when you need burst damage or haven't built Reload stacks through normal gameplay.
Potential Upgrades

| 5 | Critical Damage Proficiency | +2.4% Critical Damage per level (max 12%) | 16x Premium Growth Stone of Passion, 28,000 Units |
| 5-1 | Basic Card Proficiency | +5% Rapid Fire Damage. If Attack > 500, additional +5% | 16x Premium Growth Stone of Passion, 2x Shards of Condemnation, 60,000 Units |
| 6 | Critical Chance Proficiency | +2% Critical Chance per level (max 10%) | 120x Premium Growth Stone of Passion, 42,000 Units |
| 7 | Upgrade Unique Stats | If Attack > 700, +5% Ballista damage. For every 40 Attack over 700, +1% (up to +15% total) | 36x Premium Growth Stone of Passion, 2x Shards of Condemnation, 80,000 Units |
The most important potential is 3-1, which gives Rapid Fire a 20% chance to create random Ballistas. This provides extra Ballista generation beyond your guaranteed one per turn. The 5-1 and 7 potentials boost damage significantly once you reach the Attack thresholds.
Manifest Ego
| Stage | Manifest Ego | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sleeping Memory | Bombardment Prep card's Reload increased by 2 (3 total instead of 1) |
| 2 | Awakening Memory | When ally uses Targeting Attack Card, apply 1 Floral Scent to target. Floral Scent: +20% damage from Ballista. This enemy becomes Ballista target. Removed when applied to another target. |
| 3 | Vivid Memory | Hunting Time creates 1 random Ballista in hand |
| 4 | Inner Memory | Reload max stacks +1 (5 total) |
| 5 | Complete Memory | Increase the level of Potential by +3 for [Upgrade Basic Cards], [Upgrade Neutral Cards], [Upgrade Unique Cards] |
| 6 | Liberated Memory | At start of turn, inflict 1 Mark on all enemies with Floral Scent |
The most impactful stages are E1 and E2. E1 makes Bombardment Prep grant 3 Reload stacks instead of 1, dramatically accelerating your ramp-up. E2 is transformative - allies' targeting attacks apply Floral Scent, which makes enemies take +20% Ballista damage AND become the priority target for your Ballistas. This changes Ballistas from hitting random enemies to focusing fire on specific targets, massively improving damage consistency. E4 increases max Reload to 5 stacks (+250% damage), further scaling your damage ceiling.
How to Play Veronica in Chaos Zero Nightmare
Veronica's gameplay revolves around three core mechanics: Ballista cards, Reload stacks, and card draw support. Understanding how these systems interact is essential to playing her effectively. Unlike traditional DPS who deal damage during their turn through attack cards, Veronica deals damage at the end of each turn through Ballistas - unplayable cards that sit in your hand and automatically attack when your turn ends.
Ballista cards are generated by Firing Preparation, which has the Initiation tag, guaranteeing it's available at battle start. Using Firing Preparation creates one Ballista card immediately and generates another at the start of each subsequent turn. Ballistas cost 0 AP to hold but cannot be manually played - they fire automatically at turn end, dealing 150% damage as Extra Attack to a random enemy (or all enemies with Giant Ballista). They then exhaust themselves. This creates a consistent damage pattern where every turn, you're guaranteed at least one free attack after your actions end.
The power of Ballistas comes from Reload stacks. Each Reload stack increases Ballista damage by 50%, and they stack multiplicatively. Reload stacks are removed at the end of your turn when Ballistas fire, so you need to rebuild them each turn.
Generating Reload stacks is your primary goal each turn. Pendant of Resolution is the main engine - it's an Upgrade that grants 1 Reload whenever another combatant uses a Skill card. The key word is "another combatant" - your teammates' Skills trigger this, not Veronica's. This makes Veronica naturally synergize with Skill-heavy characters. Mika is perfect because she plays multiple 0-cost Skills per turn (Source of Water, Tactical Analysis), each granting Veronica 1 Reload.
The best Pendant of Resolution Epiphany is Epiphany 2, which grants 1 Reload when allies use Skills, and if 3 Skills are used in a turn, creates a Micro Ballista next turn. The alternative is Epiphany 5 with Retain and Retrieve 4, which grants 2 Reload instantly when played and can be held for perfect timing. Both work, but Epiphany 2 provides more consistent stacking.
Sir Kowalski serves dual purposes. Draws 2 cards, helping you cycle through your deck to find more Reposes or rebuild your hand. It's best Epiphany (Epiphany 3) draws 2 cards, and when you draw a Skill card, creates 1 Ballista.
Repose is Veronica's signature support card and why she's valued universally. At 0 AP cost with Epiphany 1, Repose draws 2 cards from other combatants' decks - it specifically cannot draw Veronica's own cards. This is incredibly powerful because it provides free card advantage to your DPS without costing resources.
The other Repose Epiphanies trade the 0 cost for additional effects. Epiphany 3 costs 1 AP but provides 150% Shield and reduces one drawn card's cost by 1, creating net-positive AP trades. Epiphany 4 costs 1 AP, grants Shield, and gives 1 Reload per other combatant Skill card in hand - this can instantly max Reload if your allies have Skill-heavy hands. Divine Epiphanies on Repose can be game-changing, especially ones that add AP recovery or further cost reduction.
For Firing Preparation Epiphanies, you choose which type of Ballista you generate. Giant Ballista (Epiphany 4) is the most universal choice because it hits all enemies with 120% AoE damage. This provides consistent value in both single-target and multi-target encounters. Piercing Ballista (Epiphany 2) deals 150% Piercing Damage with +50% bonus against shielded enemies, making it excellent for shield-heavy fights and bosses. Enhanced Ballista (Epiphany 3) grants +30% Critical Chance, scaling well if you've invested in Critical stats. Shelling Ballista (Epiphany 5) hits twice for 60% each, benefiting from damage-per-card buffs. The base Ballista (Epiphany 1) has a 50% chance to create an additional Ballista each turn, potentially giving you 2+ Ballistas per turn for explosive damage.
Veronica's greatest weakness is that she provides minimal help if your main DPS is dead or sanity-broken. Her damage, while substantial, is supplementary. In survival-focused teams, consider bringing both a shielder and Mika to ensure your DPS stays alive to benefit from Veronica's support. She excels in longer fights where her consistent damage accumulates - a 10-turn boss fight means 10+ guaranteed Ballista attacks on top of your DPS's damage.
The beauty of Veronica's design is flexibility. You can build her as a DPS-focused Ballista spammer by keeping Rapid Fire, duplicating multiple Ballistas, and using Pendant Epiphanies that max Reload instantly. Or you can build her as pure support by removing all damage cards except Firing Preparation, stacking Reposes, and becoming a draw engine. Both work, but the support build is considered stronger because 0-cost draw 2 that doesn't draw your own cards is one of the most powerful effects in card games.
