How to Play Hugo in Chaos Zero Nightmare
Hugo's whole thing revolves around Commence the Hunt, which stacks up to five times. Whenever an ally uses a targeted attack card on an enemy, Hugo will trigger a follow-up attack and reduce a stack. His damage scales with extra attack damage, dealing 50% damage plus an additional 30% per stack - so at max stacks, you're looking at 200% total damage as an extra attack. The key is understanding what triggers it: only single target attacks work. Random attacks and AoE attacks won't proc it.
The bread and butter of his kit is Hunting Instincts. This card has Initiation, meaning it starts in your hand every battle. After you activate it, every time another character uses an upgrade or skill card, Hugo gains one Commence the Hunt stack. The most important epiphany choice is the one that keeps Initiation. All the other epiphanies are not as good because if you lose Initiation, you have to hunt for the card. For Quick Fix, the best option is the draw two version - the third one. This helps you cycle through your deck a lot quicker. For Dingo Howling, the upgrade version that draws attack cards is very nice, especially in longer fights.
Remove Defense System first from your deck - it doesn't help Hugo's strategy. Fixer's Approach should be played early because it increases Commence the Hunt damage by 40% for the entire battle. Hugo doesn't really need to use his own attack cards much since his main damage comes from follow-up attacks triggered by other characters, making him very AP efficient. The general rule is to have him at five stacks for maximum damage and balance your resources between skill cards that generate stacks and attack cards that trigger the follow-ups.
