Pity System in Chaos Zero Nightmare
The pity system in Chaos Zero Nightmare is actually pretty generous compared to some gacha games. Here's how it works:
You're guaranteed to pull a 5-star unit or partner every 70 pulls. This is called the hard pity. But starting from your 58th pull, the chances of getting a 5-star increase by 4.5% with each pull. By the time you hit pull 69, you've got a 50.5% chance of getting that 5-star. What this means for you is that you'll probably get your 5-star before hitting the full 70-pull limit. Most players see their 5-star appear somewhere between pulls 60 and 70.
Limited Banner Pity Details
For limited character banners like Chizuru's, there's an extra layer of protection. When you pull a 5-star at the 70-pull mark, you have a 50% chance of getting the featured character. If you lose that coin flip and get a different 5-star, your next 5-star pull is 100% guaranteed to be the featured character.
This means the absolute worst-case scenario is 140 pulls to get the limited character you want. The pity counter also carries over between limited banners, so any pulls you make on Chizuru's banner will count toward Sereniel's banner if you don't get your 5-star yet
Which Banner Should You Pull?
Let's talk about where you should spend your resources in CZN:
1. For Brand New Players: Special Rescue Request
If you just started playing, the Special Rescue Request is the best banner to pull. This banner costs less to pull on. You only need 8 Rescue Anchors for a 10-pull instead of the usual 10. Plus, you're guaranteed a 5-star Combatant within 50 pulls instead of 70. However, this banner disappears forever once you get that guaranteed 5-star.
2. For Everyone Else: Limited Character Banners
Once you've used up the Special Rescue Request, focus your Crystals on limited character banners. These limited characters become much harder to get once their banner ends because they get added to the permanent pool with super low rates. Don't worry if you miss a character though. Unlike some games, limited characters do eventually join the permanent Combatant Rescue banner. Your chances of pulling them drop significantly, but they're not gone forever.
3. The Permanent Banners
The permanent Combatant Rescue banner is worth pulling on with your Rescue Anchors. There's a cool system called Rescue Merit. Once you've done 300 pulls on this banner, you can pick any standard 5-star character you want for free. That's a nice long-term goal.
